“The only people with whom you should try to get even are those who have helped you.”
~John E. Southard
A single page may not be enough to get even with all the people who have helped keep me sane up to this day, but here’s to trying. Cheers, everyone!
Sir Val, my guide, my mentor since Day 1. For giving me the opportunity to try out my strengths and better my weaknesses, for sharing with me the joys and frustrations of research and life in general, for patiently scrutinizing my work – thank you. I owe you a lot. Don’t count on this to be the last; we have lots more to work on.
Many thanks also to my thesis examiners, Sir Ganni and Sir Johnrob, and to my thesis reader, Sir Mando. Your suggestions and input have greatly improved this manuscript.
Sir Wilson, our lab’s dad; I know you always have our best interests at heart. Ate Cats, my big sister in the lab; you make stressful days more bearable by lending an ear. Ate Vanni, my first lab partner; you made my introduction to lab work more interesting. Members of Photonics Lab – you people rock! May we always keep our eyes on the prize. As always, aja!
To my friends who stuck it out with me through these trying times, I am lucky to have you in my life. Julie, Mae, and Mimie – you are the sisters I never had. JC, despite the distance, you manage to make me feel appreciated. Ed, you always take off a load or two by hearing out my ever so erratic musings. Raffy, we live in two totally different worlds, but I’m glad our friendship survived law school. JR, whose never-ending patience puts my short temper to shame, you kept me grounded when I felt like breaking down. Macel, my comfort zone away from all the hustle and bustle of it all, you are an awesome cousin and friend in one.
Of course, this work would have no meaning without my family. Thank you for making my life perfect. Nanay and Tatay, you made me feel like I had no boundaries. Every time I think I’ve made it to the top, you raise the bar and push me to go further. I may have finished this degree, but I know I will never be equal to you. Brian, we are apart, but you can always count on me to be your big sister. Aron, my youngest brother, you are my inspiration.
These names are only a small fraction of the people I should be thanking. To all the people whose names I no longer mentioned here, I can only hope that I have done enough to make you feel how much I appreciate you.
